Skin Rejuvenation Q & A

Skin rejuvenation is a light therapy based treatment that harnesses your body’s natural healing power to improve the appearance of your skin. The treatment can improve the appearance of:

  • Sun spots
  • Age spots
  • Areas of uneven pigmentation
  • Spider veins
  • Redness or blotchiness

Skin rejuvenation also promotes collagen growth, which can give your face a more plump, youthful appearance.

How does skin rejuvenation work?

Our combined bi-polar radio frequency and broad beam light energies of our elos technology precisely and safely target pigmented lesions such as freckles, sun spots, and age spots.  Vascular lesions such as spider vessels and redness from rosacea are also lightened and gradually fade.

When can I expect to see results?

Gradual and cumulative improvement of skin tone is typically achieved in 5 treatment sessions.  The total number of required treatment sessions depends on your skin’s condition.  Schedule a consultation to establish your personalized treatment schedule.

Does it hurt?

Cooling of the skin surface ensures additional safety during treatment.  This is a minimal downtime procedure and many patients return to normal activities immediately after treatment.

How is skin rejuvenation performed?

At Shoreline Medical Spa, the elōs™ treatment platform is used to deliver astounding skin rejuvenation results. This revolutionary system combines the power of laser therapy with radiofrequency energy to create a safe and highly controllable heat source.

The elōs system uses laser energy to preheat the treatment area just before pulses of radiofrequency energy deliver even more heat. Because the RF energy is drawn to the preheated areas, the surrounding tissues are not affected. That allows your provider to precisely target the area where treatment will be most effective.

Previous laser treatments suffered from the skin’s inability to absorb sufficient energy as well as collateral damage when surrounding tissues in the dermis or epidermis absorbed too much light. The elōs system corrects those challenges.

What is the recovery process for skin rejuvenation?

Skin rejuvenation uses heat to create hundreds of micro-injuries to the deeper layers of your skin. Your body responds to heal those injuries, prompting new cellular growth and pushing the older, dead skin cells out.

Afterward, your skin may feel sunburned for a few days and appear more pink or red than normal. It’s critical to protect your skin from sun exposure during this time.

Over the next few days, you’ll probably notice peeling as dead skin cells are replaced by new, healthy cells. This is a sign of an effective treatment. It can take as long as two weeks to complete the peeling process, and a slight redness can linger as your skin continues to heal.
